Valium (diazepam) is intended for the treatment and fast relief of muscle spasms, anxiety and seizures, but your doctor can prescribed it for other health conditions – for example, to treat agitation caused by alcohol withdrawal. Being allergic to estazolam, temazepam, flurazepam alprazolam, diazepam, lorazepam, clonazepam, oxazepam, chlordiazepoxide, clorazepate, triazolam, prazepam is a contraindication for taking Valium. If you take this medicine anyway an allergic reaction can occur. Tell your health care provider about any health conditions you think may interfere with your treatment. These conditions include lung disease, heart disease, liver disease, seizures or glaucoma and you maybe required a dose adjustment to make sure Valium is working fine for you. Certain drugs you take, as well as certain habits you have, may decrease the efficiency of Valium and render your treatment less beneficial. For instance, if you are a smoker you may be required to take a higher dose, as tobacco can make Valium less efficient. Some of the side effects you may experience when taking Valium include diarrhea, tiredness, upset stomach, dry mouth, weakness, drowsiness and dry mouth. These side effects do not need to be reported to your health care provider unless they change in intensity or become too bothersome. More serious side effects you may experience include constipation, frequent urination, blurred vision, changes in sex drive, restlessness and difficulty urinating. These should be reported to your health care provider if they become severe.
